Anger Management, Aggression and Self-Injurious Behavior

Anger is a natural emotion, but when frequent or intense, it can impact well‑being, relationships, and daily life. In individuals of all ages, unresolved anger may appear outwardly as aggression or inwardly as self‑harm. Without skills to manage strong emotions, anger can feel overwhelming. Some may lash out, while others turn it inward through self-injurious behaviours, often as a way to release distress or regain control.

Although outbursts may offer short-term relief, they can have long-term consequences, including strained relationships, loss of trust, and increased emotional distress.

How can we help?

With early support, individuals can learn healthier ways to manage anger and strong emotions. Our therapists work closely with each individual to identify triggers, recognise the signs of anger, and develop coping strategies tailored to their needs. Using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, alongside social skills training, we help individuals communicate effectively, solve problems, and respond calmly in challenging situations.

Parents and caregivers are central to this process. We provide guidance on reinforcing positive strategies at home and creating a safe, supportive environment where individuals feel confident to explore and express their emotions. Our goal is to help individuals reduce aggressive or self-harming behaviours, gain emotional control, and build resilience — supporting them to navigate school, friendships, and daily life with greater confidence and well-being.
